Trÿkt af Winckelman & Sönner [1861] Folio; title and 15 pl. protected by tissue guards (incomplete of the musical scores pp., table of contents bound at the end; last pl. detached, foxing in the margins and verso of the plates, many on certain plates). Contemp. three-quarter black shagreen, black shagreened paper covers, gilt ruled spine with raised bands (traces of use, joints, turn ins, edges and corners rubbed). Second edition illustrated with 1 chromolithographed title and 15 chromolithographs figuring costumes from Aal in Hallingdal, Surendalen, Saelbo, Laplanders in summer and winter dress, etc. Accompanied with legends and explanatory texts in Norwegian, German and English. The first edition of 1851-1852 contained 33 plates. Tönsberg (1813-1897), one of the larger Norwegian publishers, is best known for his illustrated books on the country. Ref.
