PAULY, G. Puzzle: Atlas géographique. Paris [L. Saussine] end 19th c 3 map puzzles, 38,4 x 29,7 cm, coloured (ca. 10 pieces missing) Housed in an original box. Geographical jigsaw puzzle set comprising three maps mounted and cut into parts: 1. "Europe physique et politique." - 2. "Planisphère." - 3. "Pays-Bas et Belgique. [and] Italie." With inset map of Rome and environments. G. Pauly is most probably the officer of public instruction who authored "Nouvelle méthode de géographie : établie d'après le plan d'études des écoles primaires supérieures et de l'enseignement secondaire" (Paris, G. Guérin, 1892). The front board of the presentation case is decorated with a fabulous chromolithograph signed "LS Paris", referring to the Parisian editor Léon Saussine who was active between 1860 and 1899. His publishing firm continued until the 1960s.
