Bust of a French Bourbon
White, partly ochre-coloured marble, set or patinated. On a column plinth life-size bust, three-quarters profile to the left, probably portrait of King Louis XIV of France, in courtly costume with allonge wig, lace jabot, fur cloak,
sash and breastplate with lilies in relief. Stylistically, the bust is in the tradition of the two French sculptors
François Girardon (1628 - 1715) and Antoine Coysevox (1640
- 1720), who both created a series of portrait busts for the royal court. Allonge wig ger. dam.; h. 74 cm.
