Portrait of an elderly grey-haired man in half profile, dressed in a suit and tie with a tie pin, portrait of an actor, according to unchecked information of the previous owner, highly oval, glazed portrait painting, oil on canvas, signed and dated "A. Schlesinger 1860", craquelure, framed in a splendid high oval frame with a loop crowning (somewhat in need of restoration), rebate dimensions approx. 60 x 52.5 cm. Artist info: also Adolph Schlesinger, German portrait painter (1817 Mainz to 1870? Cologne?), son of the portrait painter Johann Georg Schlesinger (1775-1841), studied painting and architecture at the Düsseldorf Academy under Carl Ferdinand Sohn and Carl Friedrich Schäffer from 1832-34, and briefly in the landscape class under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer in 1834.
