Study of a groom holding a rein, minimal pastose sketch with quick strokes, oil on cardboard, around 1900, unsigned, on the reverse estate stamp "Original von Richard B. Adam - Nachlass" as well as handwritten address on a consignment label of the Munich art publisher Franz Hanfstængl "Herr Richard B. Adam, Kunstmaler hier (Neuwittelsbach) Prinzenstr. 3", distorted painting ground, preservation defects, unframed, dimensions approx. 54 x 39 cm. Artist info: engl. Painter and draughtsman (1873 Munich to 1937 Munich), came from a Munich painter's family, son of the painter Emil Franz Adam, grandson of the animal painter Benno Adam, first pupil of his father Emil Adam, 1887 pupil of Nicolas Gysis, 1888 at the School of Applied Arts Munich with Sigmund Strähuber and Ludwig von Langenmantel, 1889-92 pupil of Heinrich Knirr's private school, 1892-94 studies with Hermann Baisch at the Academy of Karlsruhe, then further training as a horse painter by his father Emil Adam, created numerous works for the European high aristocracy, 1915-18 as a war painter at the headquarters of the German Emperor Wilhelm II., between 1928 and 1931 working stays in the USA, later appointed professor, member of the Reichsverband bildender Künstler Deutschlands, of the Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft in the Münchner Künstlerunterstützungsverein and of the Hungarian artists' club Fészek, received numerous honours such as the Prince Regent Luitpold Medal in silver, the Knight's Cross of the Franz-Josefs Order and the Iron Cross 2.
