HOURS (The Book of) Queen Anne of Brittany. [Paris, Curmer, 1859-1861]. Large volume large in-4, garnet velvet, rich gilt metal decoration composed of chopsticks and twists in the frame, on the first plate effigy of the Evangelists at the corners, angels on the second, all bordered by 16 imitation stones (moonstone, sapphire, emerald and ruby), large chiseled and relief in the center showing an angel holding a phylactery in a quatrefoil on a background of scrolls, chased clasp decorated with three imitation stones, smooth spine, gilt metal reinforcement and ornamented at the caps, gilt metal title, ivory lining and moire endpapers decorated with a semé of large fleurs-de-lis, double endpapers gilt, gilt and chased edges (Binding by the publisher).
Superb chromolithographic reproduction of the Great Hours of Anne of Brittany, a masterpiece of illumination, published by Curmer.
The book contains 477 tabbed pages, with numerous chromolithographic illustrations reproducing the large miniatures, illuminations, line fragments, etc., of the original 15th century manuscript now kept in the BnF's Manuscript Cabinet.
