Michel Zachariou
Terracotta
Height 31cm
Akkad
Mirage of the past or fragment found? Pan of the wall of a very old city in the desert? Indecipherable memorial stele ? Or a simple geological vestige of the first ages? Shaped by man's hand or sculpted by the weather, the material seems however animated by disturbing organic
vibrations...
Michel Zachariou
"Shaping the earth is like drawing: you can constantly erase, take over, rework ... in an endless search." Originally a Parisian, living in the Lot for over forty years, Michel Zachariou has exhibited in France (Paris, Menton, Grenoble, Montrouge...) and abroad (Brussels, Lausanne, Athens...), before responding to numerous public commissions (2007: reception room of the Hôtel du Département du Lot, 670 sculptures). Away from fashions and the market, he conducts a resolutely personal research, conceived as a simultaneous exploration of the material and himself. One of his terracotta ensembles is in the collections of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. In parallel to his work as a sculptor, Michel Zachariou notably created and produced in 1997 the monumental marble clock of Cahors, which has become one of the city's emblematic monuments.
