Hodighitria Virgin of Smolensk
The prototype of this icon was transmitted to the great prince Vladimir Monomachus in the 12th century by his mother, a Greek princess. It became the palladium of the city of Smolensk. It protected the city from invasions, especially from the Tartars (1238) and Napoleon.
