Sowat (1978, FR - USA) is a Franco-American artist who grew up between the south of France and Los Angeles. Sowat draws his inspiration from the cuneiform writings on Sumerian tablets and "Cholo Writing", a calligraphy born in the 1940s and intended to mark the territories of Latin Californian gangs.
Member of the collective Da Mental Vaporz, he has been collaborating since 2010 with the Parisian artist LEK with whom he multiplies In Situ projects all over the world (Hong Kong, India, England...). To his
Alongside these, Sowat is developing experimental video work that culminates in the films "Mausolée", "Underground doesn't exist anymore" and "Tracés Directs", the first graffiti work to be included in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in 2014.
