A large silver-gilt engraved ~castle-top~ table snuff box, by John Linnit, London 1839, shaped rectangular cushion form, the hinged cover with a heavy foliate scroll border and engraved with a view of the original Licensed Victuallers~ School in Kennington, London, foliate scroll sides on a matted background, the underside of the base engraved with the names of the Trustees and Committee men, length 13.5cm, approx. weight 16.3oz. Licensed Victuallers~ School was founded in 1803 by the Society of Licensed Victuallers. The School was originally in Kennington, and then moved to Slough in 1922 and then to Ascot in 1989.
