A Verona yellow marble sculpture depicting Christ on the cross, after the Master of Saint Anastasia, 19th or 20th century
The Master of Saint Anastasia was active in Verona at the beginning of the 14th century.
This particularly expressive great Christ is very close to a Christ of the same proportions attributed to the Master of Saint Anastasia and sold by the Stuker Gallery in Bern in 2016. The Christ presented here was probably sculpted in the style of the Christ of Bern towards the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century. Several crucifixions with the "expressionist" character of the Verona region have been attributed to the Master of Saint Anastasia, who takes his pseudonym from the tympanum of the central portal of the Basilica of the same name in Verona.
