Shamshir type ceremonial sword
Iran, 20th century
Thick curved steel blade, engraved with a large Arabic inscription 'naskh' on the flat. The mount, in gilt silver / gold plated silver ? Gilt bronze ? has a straight hilt and a curved pommel handle with filigree decoration. The wooden scabbard is covered with gilded silver with floral filigree decoration enhanced with glass cabochons and imitation turquoise (glued back). In its moiré red velvet case.
