Horse-headed Khanjar
India, 19th-20th century
Made of fine white quartz, decorated with rubies in "kundan" setting, the mane folded to the side, and the mouth ajar. At the hilt, corolla of petals, and flowering stem in full bloom. Curved double-edged blade, with wide damask. The hilt plate is inlaid with gold, decorated with a representation of the Kaaba on one side, and inscribed in 'thuluth': Ya Allah on the other. Oxidised blade.
