In-16, red morocco, smooth decorated spine, triple gilt fillet framing the plates with small spandrel fleurons, gilt edges.
First edition, fully coloured at the time, illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title, an engraved plate of spheres and 30 engraved double-page maps (including an unencrypted map of the Gulf of Mexico).
The atlas is followed by a 55-page work entitled Idea of the Sphere, or Principles on Astronomical Geography, by Rigobert Bonne, Bellin's successor at the Dépôt de la Marine, Paris, 1763. With in fine an errata leaflet and 12 pp. of bookseller's catalogue.
