Contemp. black galuchat on wooden boards decorated with blind fillets, four chiselled corner-piecers on each board, two clasps with inscriptions engr. on the straps, chain attached to each board by a stapple with its chiselled plate, blind-filleted spine on raised bands, floral block-printed endpapers, all edges gilt and chiselled. Nice clasps richly decorated with figures representing the four evangelists with their symbols on the clasp-plates, and two other figures (Moses and Aaron?) on the straps. The other silver pieces are more soberly designed with shells and fleurs-de-lys. A believer carried his bible in his hand or wore it on his arm - using the short or the long chain - to go to the Sunday service. Dutch edition of the Bible in its version agreed by the States-General, printed in Gothic types on two col. and ill. with 1 front. and 37 pl. The N.T. has its own title-page.
