Full period veal on wooden ais. Dishes decorated with cold stamped frame decoration. Damaged but solid binding. Cracked jaws, damaged caps, rubbing and claws. Traces of old clasps. Very fresh inside.
First and only edition by the Amsterdam doctor and historian Olfert Dapper (1636-1689), with magnificent views from drawings by J. Veenhuyzen.
Complete with all his plates, i.e. engraved frontispiece, engraved coat of arms and 72 often double plates. In addition to two two-page maps of the city of Amsterdam, there are animated views showing churches, squares, city gates, bridges, schools, houses in the old and new city, the stock exchange, the orphanage, the houses of the women and the poor, the fish market, views of the canals and much more.
