Rare Canosinian incense burner
Height: 32.5 cm.
Greek/ Canosinian, 4th century B.C.

Elaborately designed thymiaterion in the form of a bust of a woman sitting on a plate-shaped base. The female figure in a straight posture with arms resting against it. Around her finely modelled face luxuriant foliage, garlands and fruit. The hair is tied in a thick braid at the back. A broad incense bowl grows out of her head. The neck of the bowl with a wide profile ring. Large parts of the painting in white, red, pink and brown still wonderfully preserved. Incense bowl assembled, one volute broken and reattached, one is missing. The figure however intact and of outstanding quality.
