A dance mask with a face with a closed mouth and angular lips on a tray, its closed eyelids give this work a beautiful concentrated and internalized expression. Its rounded forehead is decorated in the centre with three linear scarifications sculpted in relief.
Wood, raffia, natural pigments, headdress and beard added later as is often the case.
Pendé, Democratic Republic of Congo, first half of the 20th century.
Dimensions without the raffia: 18 x 18 cm.
