Superb copy on pure Isle de France rag, as published, of the first edition of this book tribute by Jean Cocteau to his friend Picasso. The texts of this collection published on the occasion of Picasso's 80th birthday, all signed by Cocteau, were collected on the initiative of its publisher, Pierre Bertrand. It begins with a touching preface by Cocteau: "Thirty years of exchanges could not diminish the respect I have for you and the fear I feel when I think that my work will confront your Perce-Neige eye. Therefore, he points out, one should not look in this book for the slightest word of a judge, but the simple testimony of a friend. Goeppert-Cramer, Picasso, n° 117. One of the 25 copies numbered from XXVI to L on pure rag paper Isle de France, specially hand made by A.-G. Cabrol, watermarked with the signatures of Picasso and Cocteau, this one n°XXXVIII. Copy signed in pencil by the author and the artist.
In-4 (373 x 275 mm). 24 original lithographs by Picasso on transfer paper, one for the cover, one in frontispiece and two double page. In sheets, under cover of filled cardboard paper, illustrated with a lithograph by Picasso, printed in grey and green and cut out in the form of a head profile with the title printed on a sheet of wove paper on the front. Publisher's folder and case (light rubbing of the folder and case). The copy also includes the original cardboard publisher's slipcase.
