Julius Caesar.Tapestry from the Royal Aubusson Manufactory.Bears the mark of Aubusson and the initials of the lissier in its lower braid: (H.G. MR.DAVBVSSON). Late 17th century.Woven in wool and silk.(Wear and tear, old restorations and stains.)Top. : 286 cm ; Width : 154 cm. This door, which was thought for a long time to represent Alexander the Great after Charles Le Brun, is in fact Julius Caesar :- Alexander the Great by Le Brun is almost always helmeted, in any case, always with long hair.- Julius Caesar is often accompanied by a star, which is the case and confirms this identification. The tapestry has preserved beautiful colours and its original border. It shows areas of wear, particularly in the silks and old restorations; it is probably a little narrower in width.Expert: Alexandre CHEVALIER. Location: LTSE Magasinage.
