A SET OF FIVE WILLIAM IV WHITE PAINTED PARCEL GILT SIDE CHAIRS, c.1830, possibly designed by Philip Hardwick and supplied by W & C Wilkinson, London, with padded scroll carved backs and serpentine seats, on turned legs, covered in silk damask, each rear seat rail stamped 'IB'. 54cm x 52cm x 92cm high The form of these chairs, in particular the asymmetrical C-scrolled cresting suggests an attribution to the designer Philip Hardwick (1792-1870) who supplied a very similarly conceived set of chairs for The Court Drawing Room, Goldsmith's Hall, London in 1834-35. These were supplied by the Ludgate Hill based firm W & C Wilkinson. One of the chairs is on loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
