Academie Julian for Women, Paris, c. 1911 Vintage silver print on matte paper, 170x232 mm, signed in gold on black peluche paper. “Alfred Machin, a French director (at the time called "artistic director") who set up the first film studio in Belgium in Molenbeek: the Karreveld. He was born in the north of France and had been filming in Belgium since 1909. He had a long experience as a photographer (for the magazine «L'Illustration») and as adocumentary filmmaker. But with Maudite soit la guerre, he struck hard by making one of the first large-scale films in history.”
