SPILMAN, Hendrik View of Montfoort. Ca. 1750-1784 Drawing, pen and black/brown ink, grey wash, 9,2 x 18,7 cm, carbon paper, signed in pen at the lower left "Hs.Sp_m fec.", titled at lower right "Montfoort" (sl. creased). Under passe-partout. Spilman (1721-1781) was a Dutch topographical painter and etcher. He was known for his small picturesque landscape scenes. The Amsterdam Rijksmuseum collection has a sketchbook containing 65 similar drawings of towns and landscapes in the region of Brabant and Holland.
