Description

Ridderbosch, B.C.

RIDDERBOSCH, Barend (attributed to) Mausoleum of Igel. Ca. 1780-1800 Drawing, grey and brown wash over graphite, 45,6 x 32,2 cm, laid paper with watermark (similar to Churchill 417), unsigned (hinged by corners to blue paper, several creases, some min. stains). Nice Romantic drawing of the Gallo-Roman mausoleum in Igel, near Trier (Germany). The drawing has been attributed to B. C. Ridderbosch, probably Barend Ridderbosch, court painter to the count of Arenberg and known for his landscapes with antiquarian elements. He made the Grand Tour to Rome in 1780-82. He may have worked in Brussels. Ref. https://rkd.nl/explore/artists/66749.
