Description

Leaf from an illuminated Book of Hours. [France ca. 1450] 1 f. (22 x 15,5 cm), on vellum, in Latin, 13 ll., written in a brown Gothic hand, writing area: 9,5 x 7 cm, with two-line initials enhanced with liquid gold (some soiling and spotting, sl. browning, remains of adhesive tape). Transcription of the 2nd and the beginning of 3rd Lesson of the Matins: "Sancta Maria piarum piissima" and "Sancta Dei genetrix" (use of Sarum, Rouen, etc.). The text is surrounded by a three-quarter border with floral decorative elements (incl. acanthus), enhanced with liquid gold (recto and verso).
